Nice Restaurants In Philadelphia

After visiting Philadelphia's historic sights, a fine table is waiting for you.

The "City of Brotherly Love" is a great place to dine out. Philadelphia Magazine writes that "Philly's Center City restaurants offer an appealing combination of American cuisine and international fare." Everything from French, to Japanese, to Traditional American. Settings range from sumptuous to comfortable.

Bibou

The New York Times writes that "just a block from Philadelphia's famed Ninth Street market, the lack of a liquor license isn't a negative; it's a selling point." Bibou's BYOB policy allows the chef, Pierre Calmels, who worked at haute cuisine places like Le Bernadin in New York, to focus on the food. Dishes are modern French, with appetizers like foie gras and escargot. Mains include pan-seared skate and braised pig feet. This is all served in a pretty, but unpretentious cream and wood paneled dining room.

Alma de Cuba

Perennially atop best of lists (it's in Zagat Guide's top five for 2009) is this Latin classic. The chef, Douglas Rodriguez, does a modern take on Cuban food in an upscale environment of white tablecloths and fresh flowers. Specials include a cumin-scented black bean soup with sour cream and braised pork. The cocktails list includes cuba libres, caipirinhas and frozen mojitos.

Le Bec Fin

This restaurant is the definition of old-school Philadelphia, with its dramatic chandeliers, flower arrangements and red leather chairs. Lonely Planet says that "many gourmets rate Le Bec-Fin as the country's best restaurant for its setting, service and superb French food." The menu includes beef entrecot, duck confit, poached rabbit loin and lots of other classics. Pair this with champagne, wine or one of several creative cocktails.
