Children love to help prepare food in the kitchen.
When it comes to lending a helping hand, children love to help out with anything they can, whether it's preparing a meal or helping mom or dad clean up around the house. A variety of different types of healthy snacks are available for children to make and cater to different appetites. Allowing kids to make their own meals will encourage independence and allow them to feel a sense of accomplishment.
English Muffin Pizza
English muffin pizza can be made by children of different age groups. Place two halves of an English muffin on a paper towel or aluminum foil so that the mess is easy to clean up. Make sure each side of the muffin is facing up. Allow the child to spread organic tomato sauce onto the English muffin using a spoon. Allow the child to use any toppings of their choosing, such as organic vegetables or other meats. Allow the English muffins to bake for about five to 10 minutes on about 350 degrees.
Fruit Salad
Getting children to eat fruit can be challenging. Allowing them to create their own fruit salads may encourage them to eat the fruits. Wash a few fruits such as grapes, apples, bananas and strawberries. Allow the child to chop the bananas with a plastic knife. After cutting up the apples yourself, allow the child to add the apple chunks, bananas, grapes and strawberries into the large mixing bowl. Tell them to stir the fruits up and enjoy the snack.
Frozen Banana Pops
Cut a banana in half width-wise. Allow the child to stick a Popsicle stick inside the banana for the handle. Have the child spread a topping of their choice onto the banana such as grape jelly, peanut butter, chocolate or honey. Allow the child to roll the banana pop in a topping such as granola, crushed cereal or chopped nuts. Place the bananas in the freezer for about three hours and then enjoy the snack.
Pudding Pops
Allow the child to mix a box of pudding in a bowl. Follow the directions on the box. Allow the child to stir in a small tub of whipped topping and pour the mixture into small plastic cups. Have the child place a Popsicle stick or a plastic spoon into the plastic cups and put them in freezer until they're completely frozen. After they're frozen, allow the child to tear the plastic away and enjoy the pudding pops.
