A caramel twist can make homemade apple pie even sweeter.
A caramelized apple pie is an easy and fresh apple pie option. This kind of pie takes a lot of ingredients but doesn't take a lot of time to put together. It works best for special occasions and holidays, but it can be served at anytime friends and family get together.
Instructions
Prepare Apples
1. Preheat the oven to 375-degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Place one pie crust into the pie plate and gently mold it to the form of the plate. Some of the pastry should overhang over the edge of the pie plate.
3. Mix together sugar, ¼-cup flour and cinnamon in a mixing bowl.
4. Peel, core and slice apples into wedges. Add the apple wedges into the mixture and stir until all of the apples are coated. Pour the

5. Mix oatmeal, brown sugar and 3 tbsp. flour together in the mixing bowl. Add butter/margarine and mix in with a fork or whisk to make coarse crumbs. Spread the mixture over the apples.
6. Cut the second pie pastry crust into ½-inch strips. Weave the strips over the apples to make a lattice crust. Place a strip on the edge of the pie plate (strip-1). Turn the plate 45 degrees and place a strip down that edge (strip-2). Rotate back to the strip-1 and add
7. Press a fork on the pie crust that is on the edge of the pie plate and continue around the entire plate. This will seal the edges of the pie. Cut off any overhanging crust.
Baking
8. Cover the sealed edge of the pie with aluminum foil to prevent burning.
9. Bake on the lowest shelf in the oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 25 to 30 minutes, or until the filling bubbles.
10. Remove pie from oven and place it on a cooling rack. Let it cool for 10 minutes.
11. Drizzle caramel topping over and in between the lattice crust to cover the crust and apples. Sprinkle nuts over the caramel.
