Freeze Tomato Sauce In Canning Jars

Freezing tomato sauce in canning jars is the ideal way to preserve fresh taste and texture.

Tomato sauce, that wonderful kitchen staple, is the ideal sauce to store in the freezer for quick meals at the end of a long day. Tomato sauces freeze exceptionally well and can last for several months in the freezer. Canning jars can be reused multiple times for freezing and storing household items. Be sure to purchase wide-mouth, freezer-safe canning jars before freezing any type of sauce, as other types of jars will crack in the freezing process.

Instructions

1. Ladle the tomato sauce into the wide-mouth canning jar. Leave about one inch from the top of the jar empty. Liquid, such as tomato sauce, will expand in the freezing process and you want to leave room for that expansion to occur.

2. Screw on the lid of the canning jar tightly and securely. Turn the jar over and ensure that the jar is entirely sealed and no freezer air will enter into the jar.

3. Place in the freezer and allow to freeze completely. Check on the tomato sauce every few weeks to ensure that the sauce has not experienced any freezer burn or other disruptions. The sauce should be used within six months of freezing. Thaw the tomato sauce by placing in the fridge a day or so before you would like to use it. Or you can place the tomato sauce jar in a bath of really warm water for about twenty to thirty minutes.
