Peanuts are a healthy snack packed with protein and important vitamins and minerals, such as calcium, potassium, iron and zinc. While many people boil or roast their peanuts to get a different flavor, the cooking process can drain the nuts of some of their nutrients. If you choose to eat your peanuts raw, there are many ways to do so, including adding them as flavor embellishments to some of your favorite dishes.
Instructions
1. Shell your peanuts by cracking open the shell to release the peanut bean. Because the peanut shell is so soft, you don't need a nut cracker unless you just want to use one. It is very easy to shell the peanuts by hand.
2. Place your raw peanuts on a bed of lettuce to be enjoyed as a salad. Add other items, such as carrots, cheese and tomatoes. Use your favorite salad dressing or an Asian dressing, which has a sweet flavor that compliments the peanut taste.
3. Place your raw peanuts in a blender to make homemade peanut butter. To make the peanut butter "pasty," add a little oil to the blender. Add 2 tbsp. of oil for every cup of peanuts.
Blend on high until you have the desired consistency of paste. If you want to make your peanut butter a little sweet without adding sugar, add a tablespoon of honey. You can also add salt if you like.
4. Make an ice cream sundae. Add hot fudge and a little whipped cream. Toss some of the peanuts on top.
5. Add a little variety to your favorite soup or stew. Place in a handful of raw peanuts just before serving.
