Make Teppanyaki

Teppanyaki is a Japanese dish that consists of meat, often steak, that is prepared on a flattop griddle. Teppan means iron plate in Japanese, and yaki is the Japanese word for meat. Served in a delicate and flavorful sauce, often with a vegetable accompaniment, teppanyaki is a delicious, healthy meal that you can prepare at home. Steak teppanyaki is traditionally prepared on a hot iron griddle, but you can use any skillet you have at home.

Instructions

1. Heat your cooking surface to medium-high heat.

2. Brush the cooking surface with soybean oil.

3. Sprinkle both sides of the steak with salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste.

4. Cook steaks for four minutes, and then flip. If you want well-done steak, cook it for six minutes.

5. Place a few pats of butter on the browned side of the meat, and drizzle with soy sauce.

6. Continue cooking steak for two to four minutes, going more toward the four-minute mark if you like well done steaks.

7. Set the steaks aside on a plate, and tent with tinfoil to rest while you prepare the vegetables.

8. Toss the vegetables onto the still-warm cooking surface and cook until done. Divide cooked veggies between two plates.

9. Slice the steaks thinly, and arrange on top of the bed of vegetables.

10. Pour 2 tbsp. each of soy sauce and mirin onto your cooking surface, cooking for two minutes. Pour over the plates and garnish with red pepper flakes and cilantro to your taste.
