Measure Dry Ingredients

Keep these guidelines in mind when measuring dry ingredients for recipes.

Instructions

1. Measure teaspoon and tablespoon measurements with a set of standard measuring spoons. Serving teaspoons aren't the same as a measuring teaspoon.

2. Make sure ingredients are leveled off and even with the rim of the spoon.

3. Use the same set of measuring spoons each time; precise sizes vary among manufacturers.

4. Measure cup measurements with a set of standard dry measuring cups. (Liquid measuring cups have a spout; dry measuring cups have an even rim.)

5. Make sure ingredients are level with the rim of the cup.

6. Unless specified in a recipe, cup measurements should be unsifted.

7. Use the same cups every time. Cup measurements are supposed to be standardized, but precise sizes vary among manufacturers.

8. Carefully clean spoons and cups after each use.

9. Measure dry ingredients for baking recipes with a kitchen scale, if possible. Due to the settling of flour and other ingredients, weighing is the most accurate measurement.
