Cook Venison Ring Bologna

A freshly harvested deer makes great venison ring bologna.

Venison ring bologna is available in two forms: fully cooked or ready to cook. Fully cooked venison ring bologna can be eaten straight out of the refrigerator or heated while ready-to-cook venison bologna is prepared much like any pork sausage. Most venison ring bologna is made at home or by meat packinghouses as deer are brought in after the fall hunting season harvest.

Instructions

Fully Cooked Ring Bologna

1. Cut the bologna into slices up to 1/2-inch thick.

2. Make a cut into the bologna slice, starting at the center and extending out to one edge. This will keep the bologna from curling while cooking in the pan.

3. Preheat a skillet over medium heat. Place the bologna slices into the skillet and brown on each side for 1 to 2 minutes. Use a fork or kitchen tongs to turn the bologna in the skillet.

Ready-to-Cook Venison Bologna

4. Place the bologna rings into a saucepan.

5. Cover with water and place on the stove. Bring the water to a boil.

6. Turn the heat down to a simmer and cook the bologna for 30 minutes.

7. Brown the bologna ring in a skillet, if desired, after the ring is fully cooked.
