Cut A Bread Bowl

Start your bread bowl with a round loaf.

A bread bowl is a great way to serve soups and dips at any meal or party. Many bakeries sell different varieties and sizes of round bread loaves, from wheat to sesame seed, that can be used to complement a meal. Many restaurants offer bread bowls for soups or appetizers with options like chili, clam chowder and spinach dip. Bread bowls can be both a useful and tasty addition to your first course.

Instructions

1. Place a round loaf of bread on a flat surface.

2. Slice straight down into the top of the loaf, about 3/4 of the way down, using the tip of a sharp knife. Make the initial slice about an inch from the edge of the outside of the loaf.

3. Slice around the edge of the loaf, keeping the knife in an upright position, until a full circle has been cut.

4. Cut the core of the loaf, using the tip of the knife, or use your hand to rip the excess bread from the inside.

5. Pour your hot soup or creamy dip into the bread bowl just before serving.
