Freeze Basil & Parsley

Freeze basil and parsley to use in dishes later.

Preserve basil and parsley for year-round use by freezing them. The herbs stay nearly as fresh as the day you freeze them when you pack them at their peak. Throw frozen herbs into any cooked dish in which you use fresh herbs. When winter hits, you'll have the taste of fresh summer herbs available even though next year's harvest is still months away.

Instructions

Basil

1. Wash the basil leaves under cold, running water.

2. Place the leaves in a colander to dry.

3. Layer the leaves in a resealable freezer bag, once dry. Or spray an ice cube tray with non-stick spray, chop the basil and stuff into the ice cube trays. Place the tray in the freezer and once frozen, transfer the cubes to a freezer bag.

4. Squeeze out the air as you seal the freezer bag.

5. Place the bag in the freezer for storage.

Parsley

6. Wash the parsley under cold, running water. Place the parsley in a colander to dry.

7. Transfer the parsley to a cutting board once dry. Cut the parsley leaves into fine pieces with a sharp knife.

8. Place the chopped parsley pieces into a freezer-safe bag. Squeeze the air out of the bag as you seal it shut.

9. Place the freezer bag of parsley into the freezer.
