When choosing a Valentine's Day gift for a young lady, think about her style and substance. Do chocolates or flowers make sense as a gift? Sometimes stereotypical gifts can seem meaningless, especially if a woman has eclectic tastes. Although the traditional route may look safer on the surface, it's the present with the most personal meaning that makes the most impact. Consider donating to a favorite charity, or purchasing a nice plant instead.
Think Outside the Box
Look at diverse and interesting ways to give flowers or sweets. There is a booming gourmet chocolate industry, filled with creations that feature ants, pepper or violet water. Local stores such as Whole Foods sell organic and Fair Trade candies, along with organic flower arrangements. Check online sources to find rare blooms or interesting roses. Or, give a lovely flower pot with some seeds, and plant a token of your growing love.
Try an Experience Rather Than An Object
Do some searching on the Internet to find restaurants or tours that specialize in chocolate. For example, Max Brenner's eatery in New York City bases much of its delicious menu on different varieties of chocolate. Take your sweetie to a bar that serves chocolate drinks and martinis. Find chocolate body products and give a sensual massage.
Instead of just giving flowers, try giving custom-mixed perfume or oils. Make a romantic weekend of it and visit a conservatory. An overnight to Washington, DC with a trip to the National Conservatory for two costs very little, and creates memories for a lifetime.
