Poulan Pro PPB300 gas trimmer stops running
I have a Poulan Pro PPB300 gas trimmer (31cc edger/weed-eater). I have not used it very much so I am pretty frustrated with it not working now. (My Poulan chain saw and blower work just fine). I bought a Poulan so that I would have the same 40:1 gas mixture. My trimmer starts fine but after a while (5 minutes) of use it konks out. It also konks out if I run it at full speed and then leg go of the trigger. When I try to get it started again it konks out when I pull the trigger. After several times of trying to get it going again it just would not start. I have not tried it again since the weekend but assume it will start again when it is cooled down. I did a google search and found that many people seem to have this same problem with the Poulan or Craftsman which people say is really the same trimmer. I was actually thinking of getting a used Craftsman off ebay but now realize I would end up with the same piece of junk. The manual is also lowsy as it does not tell you do any adjustments on it. I figure since the warranty is over I may as well see if there is something I can do to take it apart and fix it. Can you give me any direction on this? If it's a Poulan and is over 2 yrs old it needs new fuel lines, Have a good one. Geo Hi, Why do you say it needs new fuels lines? What would be the evidence of them being bad? Also where should I purchase fuel line? Can I get it at an auto parts store or where? Thanks, Rick If the lines are hard, brown, or show any evidence of wetness, they are bad. Most any small engine repair shop will have the fuel line by the foot. You'll need to take the machine or a piece of the old fuel line for them to match it. Some trimmers have 2 different sizes, so take both sizes if this is the case. If the lines are bad, check the primer. It usually goes bad around the same time as the lines. If the fuel lines prove not to be the problem then it is a carburetor problem. Hi Cheese, Thank you for the advise. I hope to start taking my trimmer apart this weekend. I have not had the trimmer for that long. Probably about 2 years so my guess is that the primer bulb will still be ok. What do you think? Do you also suggest getting the primer bulb at a small engine repair shop or do I need to special order it from somewhere? Do you know where I might be able to get an exploded view of the engine/caburator so I can see how things go together? Thanks RickMac IPL for the Trimmer: http://www.billious.com/ipls/index.p...ile=PPB300.pdf IPL for the carb - WT-628 http://wem.walbro.com/walbro/product...ilyName=POULAN Have a good one. Geo If the fuel lines look good, and there is no evidence of the primer being bad, then no...I wouldn't replace it. I only suggest replacing it at the same time as the fuel lines IF they are bad, since the primer is made of similar material and usually is bad or close to it by the time the lines go bad. It seems to me that fuel lines can go bad in a couple years, or they might last 5 or 7 years. I don't know what the diffetence is, but I suspect a lot of it has to do with temperature and sunlight where the unit is stored.
