Make Popcorn Chicken

Popcorn chicken has been a staple in the American diet for many years. One doesn't have to go out to eat to get good popcorn chicken. It can be made at home using a few simple ingredients and some frying skills.

Instructions

1. Gather all ingredients. Boneless chicken breast meat is the easiest to work with.

2. Mix the coating. There are a million different recipes and any one made for regular fried chicken works great for popcorn chicken, too.

3. Use a sharp knife to cut the chicken breast meat into bite-size pieces.

4. Toss the chicken pieces in the coating.

5. Heat 2 inches of oil in a deep-sided frying pan. Test the oil by dropping a bit of flour in the oil. The oil is ready when tiny bubbles form around the flour. Carefully place the coated chicken pieces in the oil in small batches. Adding too much popcorn chicken at once can cause the temperature of the oil to drop.

6. Watch for the chicken to turn golden brown. After approximately 3 minutes, remove a piece of the popcorn chicken. Cut it open to check for doneness. The meat is white when the chicken is done.

7. Use a slotted spoon to remove the popcorn chicken from the oil and drain on paper towels. Let the oil heat back up before adding another batch of popcorn chicken.
