The Best Way To Serve Burgundy Wine

Burgundy wine should be allowed to breathe before serving.

Burgundy wine is a red variety that hails from the Burgundy region of France and is also known as "Bourgogne." It is believed that wine has been grown in this region of France since at least the second century. This hearty, robust wine is popular throughout the world and pairs well with a variety of foods. Serving Burgundy wine is relatively easy, but there are a few key things to keep in mind.

Instructions

1. Chill the bottle slightly, ideally around 55 or 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Prepare the proper stemware. Burgundy should be served in a wine glass with a wide, deep shape. This wide bowl shape can help a person taste all the complex flavors of the wine.

3. Pop the cork and allow the wine to breathe for 15 minutes. If the Burgundy is of a particularly old vintage, make sure to decant it before serving to minimize sediment in your glass. Decanting is also an excellent way to aerate new wines.

4. Pair your glass of Burgundy with a meal such as duck, wild game, beef stew, coq au vin or roasted chicken. Burgundy also pairs well with a variety of cheeses, including brie, fontina and gruyere, as well as dark chocolate cake or truffles.
