Benefits Of Wine

There has been mixed news reported over the years about the benefits of wine, but it appears that drinking wine--especially red wine--in moderation can be good for you in a number of ways.

Phytochemicals

The phytochemicals in wine, specifically flavanoids and resveratrol, are antioxidants that act to prevent against cellular damage within your body. Red wine contains even more of these than white wine.

Heart Health

Resveratrol can reduce your risk of heart disease. Wine also can raise your body's levels of HDL (good cholesterol), increasing heart health, and can thin blood, decreasing the risk of blood clots.

Cancer Recovery

While alcohol can increase your risk of breast cancer, the resveratrol in wine has been shown to decrease tumor development, slowing down some cancers.

Slowed Neurological Disorders

Phytochemicals found in wine can slow the progression of a number of degenerative neurological disorders, such as Parkinson's Disease and Alzheimer's.

Considerations

The key is moderation. In order for wine to have benefits and not risks, men should drink no more than two glasses a day and women no more than one.
