Soak Pumpkin Seeds In Sugar Or Salt Water

Roasted pumpkin seeds are a healthy snack.

Pumpkin seeds, also known as pepitas, are a good source of fiber and nutrients. When soaked in sugar or salt water, the flavor of the seeds is enhanced as they are baked. Pumpkin seeds are a healthy treat and easy to prepare.

Instructions

1. Pour the seeds into the large pot.

2. Rinse the seeds under running water to remove any leftover pumpkin flesh. Drain any water.

3. Cover the seeds with water. Add 1/4 cup of salt or sugar for every two cups of water.

4. Stir the seeds, water, salt and/or sugar until the granules have dissolved.

5. Soak the seeds overnight.

6. Drain the sugar and/or salt water from the seeds.

7. Blot the seeds with paper towel to remove most of the moisture.

8. Place the seeds in one even layer on a baking sheet. Let sit for two hours or until dry.

9. Preheat an oven to 250 degrees F. Roast the seeds for one hour, turning every 20 minutes in order to brown them.

10. Store the seeds in an airtight container for up to three months, or up to a year in the refrigerator.
