Holiday Spiced Rum Drinks

Make sure everyone has a designated driver to get home safely.

Spiced rum drinks set a festive mood at holiday parties and are easily made at home. You may, however, need to purchase additional mixers and perform basic cooking tasks, like bringing your drink to a boil during the mixing process. When you're done crafting your spiced rum beverage, serve your creation in a decorative punch bowl or holiday glasses.

Spiced Spiked Cider

If it's cold outside, your guests will appreciate a warm spiced rum cider. Using a saucepan, combine 1 part spiced rum, 3 parts apple cider, 1 lemon rind, a dash of lemon juice, 1 tsp. of cloves and a cinnamon stick. Bring the contents to a boil. Reduce heat and serve in festive mug. Include a cinnamon stick and lemon peel garnish with each drink for a tasty accent.

Hot Buttered Rum

Hot buttered rum takes some time to prepare, but the sugary warmth can be worth the effort. Cream together 2/3 cup packed dark brown sugar, 1/2 cup soft butter, 1/4 cup honey, 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon, 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg, 1/8 tsp. ground cloves and a pinch of salt. Add 3/4 cup spiced rum to the mixture, followed by 2 cups of boiling water. Pour into mugs and garnish with cinnamon sticks. Recipe serves four.

Cranberry Kiss

Cranberries and peppermint are two classic holiday flavors, so combine them with spiced rum for a sweet cocktail. Mix 3/4 oz. spiced rum, 1/2 oz. peppermint schnapps, 2 oz. collins mix and 2 oz. cranberry juice. Collins mix is a premixed combination of club soda, lemon juice and sugar sold at liquor stores or supermarkets that sell mixers, depending on the state. Serve your drink in highball glasses with ice. For a garnish add a slice of lime.

Spiced Rum Eggnog

Eggnog is a classic holiday drink to which spiced rum adds a subtle kick. Separate 6 eggs and beat the yolks. Add a half cup of sugar to the yolks. Mix in 1 qt. of milk, 1 pt. of cream and 3 oz. of spiced rum. Beat the egg whites, then fold them into the mixture. Grate fresh nutmeg over the beverages. Serves 6.
