New Trends In Ceramic Tiles

New Trends in Ceramic Tiles

Ceramic tile makes a beautiful addition to any room, whether on the floor or on the wall. Ceramic tile comes in many sizes, shapes, colors and finishes. Like many other aspects of home decor, ceramic tile has different trends every year. Whether you follow the trends, create one of your own, or use a design that withstands the test of time, ceramic tile will add a touch of elegance to any room.

Patterns

Patterns on ceramic tile are a very popular trend. Most of these patterns use four tiles, which create a larger square to complete a pattern when placed together. Many of these patterns feature just two colors that are in contrast with one another, such as black and white. No space is left between these tiles when places, so as not to disrupt the pattern in any way.

Pictures

A very intricate trend is the idea of creating a picture with ceramic tile, to create a mural effect. The tile must be placed seamlessly next to one another like a puzzle. If done properly, the result will look as though a picture was painted on the wall or the floor. Another trend with this idea is to create a smaller picture surrounded by darker tiles to make the picture stand out.

Alternating

A trend that is very common in kitchens on both walls and floors is the alternating scheme. A checkerboard pattern is used with the same color tiles, only every other tile has a different picture on it. These pictures usually follow the same theme, such as fruits or flowers. These tiles often have a matte finish to give the alternating scheme a bit more depth and a more rustic or "country" feel.

Mosaic

Homeowners can hire a professional to install a pre-made mosaic, or hire an artist to create one. Similar to a mural painted on a wall, a mosaic is pieced together from different colored tiles.

Colors

Bright colors are a hot trend with creamic tile, especially reds and metallics. Retro looks and pop art designs, such as replicating Andy Warhol, are very much in style. Colors from the 1960s and 1970s are making a comeback in home decor, especially in the realm of ceramic tile.
