Rice is a versatile food.
Long grain rice is a long, slender grain. The slender grains stay fluffy after you cook them. This makes long grain rice ideal to serve as a side dish or with sauces. In general, rice is a versatile food. One brand of rice that is sold is Uncle Ben's converted long grain rice. It's available in both white and brown varieties.
Instructions
1. Combine the amount of rice, butter and water in a medium to large saucepan. The butter is optional and just adds some flavor. If you plan to make two servings of rice, use a 1/2 cup of rice, 1 1/3 cups of water and 1 teaspoon of butter. To make four servings, use 1 cup of rice, 2 1/4 cups of water and 2 tablespoons of butter. For six servings, combine 1 1/2 cups of rice, 3 1/3 cups of water and 1 tablespoon of butter. To make 12 servings, use 3 cups of rice, 6 cups of water and 2 tablespoons of butter.
2. Bring the mixture to a boil. Once it's boiling, reduce heat to medium or medium-low.
3. Cover the saucepan and allow it to simmer for 20 minutes. Keep it covered while it's simmering. Stir the rice occasionally.
4. Remove the saucepan from heat. Keep it covered for five minutes, or until the water has been fully absorbed. Fluff the rice with a fork.
