Make Your Own Nut Butter

peanut butter

If you love peanut butter then you might want to try out other nut butters such as pecan butter, almond butter, or hazelnut butter. While you may shy away from nut butters because you fear they are fattening, keep in mind that nuts are high in antioxidants and they are very healthy in moderation. Making your own nut butter is extremely easy and once you learn do it you will have fun experimenting with a variety of nut butters.

Instructions

1. The first thing you need to do in order to make nut butter is to choose your nut. Do you want cashew, pecan, almond, peanut or hazelnut butter? Each nut has it's own distinct flavor and set of antioxidants.

2. The second thing you need to do in order to make nut butter is to roast your nuts on a cookie sheet at 150-170 degrees Fahrenheit until lightly browned.

3. Put the roasted nuts into a food processor and add 2-5 tablespoons of canola oil. Mix until the nut butter is at the desired creaminess. If you want a sweeter nut butter add brown sugar to taste. Add salt to taste.

4. Store your nut butter in a jar and keep in the refrigerator. Remember that your nut butter is not full of preservatives so it won't keep as long as store bought nut butter.

5. Enjoy your nut butter on fruit, crackers, and muffins. Fill small jars and wrap with a red ribbon and you have a great birthday, Christmas, or party gift to give away.
