Store & Package Caramel Apples

Toppings like nuts or chocolate can be added to your caramel apples.

Caramel apples are a fun and popular dessert for the fall season and holidays. Making them is simple: Insert a Popsicle stick into the core, and dip the apple in caramel to coat. Decorate the apples to create a one-of-a-kind dessert. In most cases, caramel apples are consumed shortly after being prepared. Sometimes, caramel apples are made for school functions or activities and must be stored until later. In order for caramel apples to stay fresh, they must be properly cooled, wrapped and stored.

Instructions

1. Cut a piece of wax paper large enough to cover an entire apple.

2. Wrap the wax paper completely around the apple. This will ensure other wrappings do not stick to the caramel-coated apple.

3. Wrap the caramel apples using foil or plastic wrap to keep air from reaching the apple. Wrap the foil or plastic wrap around the wax paper cover and the apple. Wrap a rubber band tightly around the plastic wrap or foil where the Popsicle stick meets the apple. This will prevent the wrap from coming loose.

4. Place the caramel apples on a tray or pan and store the tray of caramel apples in the refrigerator to keep them cold until they are ready for consumption. Remove the tray from the refrigerator roughly 45 minutes before they are to be consumed to allow the caramel to soften.
