Different Uses For Orange Marmalade

Orange marmalade is a great way to preserve oranges and use them later.

Orange marmalade is quite versatile because it features sweet and tart flavors. It can is used in both savory and sweet recipes; it can be blended with liquids to make sauces, mixed in to cake batters or used alone as a topping for proteins or desserts. Use orange marmalade alone as a cold dessert topping in warmer weather or add cinnamon and sweet spices to it as a topping for warm dessert in cold weather.

Savory Sauces

Orange marmalade is a common ingredient in quick Asian-style sauces to go on pork or chicken. The orange marmalade can be made more tart by adding lemon juice or more savory by adding beef or chicken broth. The orange marmalade sauce is usually thickened with flour or cornstarch to create a thick glaze that coats the meat. Orange marmalade sauce can be used on other meats too, such as veal cutlets, fish or shrimp.

Spreads

Spread orange marmalade on toast in place of jelly or mix it with butter to make orange butter for a creamier spread. Spread orange marmalade on turkey or ham sandwiches to make a delicious contrast between the sweet tart and salty flavors. Add cheese and mayonnaise to the sandwich to complement the orange marmalade.

Topping

Top rolls or biscuits with a mixture of orange marmalade, orange juice and confectioners' sugar to make an icing for oranges glazed breakfast bread. Top spice cake, pound cake or coffee cake with orange marmalade while the cake is still warm to allow it to melt over it. Mix orange marmalade with dried cranberries to make a topping for ice cream or sliced pound cake. Use orange marmalade alone as a topping for baked ham, instead of honey or brown sugar.

Cake and Pie Recipes

Add marmalade to the batter of pound cake or cheesecake recipes to make them taste like sweet orange marmalade. Replace 1/2 cup of corn syrup with orange marmalade in a pecan pie recipe to make an orange pecan pie. Mix orange marmalade with a few tablespoons of rum and heat it with corn syrup to make regular cakes and muffins into orange rum cakes. Poke holes all over the cake and drench it in the orange rum mixture. Use blood orange marmalade to give any cake recipe a twist and make it sweeter.
