Use A Steam Pot

A steam pot--more commonly referred to as a steamer pot--is a cooking device that allows you to steam vegetables and other foods, including dumplings, fish and chicken. Steamed food is a healthy alternative to fried or sauteed foods and the steam pot makes the process an easier one.

Instructions

1. Fill your steam pot halfway full with water. Place the lid on top and then place the pot on top of the stove.

2. Turn the heat onto the highest setting and wait for the water to boil.

3. Add your food to the steam pot. If steaming vegetables, cut off hard ends for a more even steam (e.g., the bottom of asparagus or broccoli stems). For poultry or fish, it's best to steam only one portion at a time.

4. Turn the heat down to a medium-high setting and let the food steam for five to 10 minutes. Poultry and fish may take a little longer. Use a meat thermometer to test it, if necessary.

5. Remove the steam pot from the heat and place the food on your dish. Refill the pot with water to the halfway point if you have more steaming to do. If not, discard the water.
