Make Butter Popcorn

Like Bogey and Bacall, movies and buttery popcorn go hand in hand, forming a truly classic combination. Often it is easier or more affordable to stay in and watch a flick from the comfort of your own home than to visit a local theater. But just because you stay in, rather than head to the theater, doesn't mean you have to sacrifice your favorite movie snack. Making delicious, buttery popcorn at home is actually quite simple, leaving you plenty of time to enjoy the hottest new releases.

Instructions

1. Turn stove on high. Pour vegetable oil in saucepan to measure approximately 1/4-inches deep, completely covering bottom of pan. Place pan on burner and allow to heat up for a couple of minutes. Gently drop 3 popcorn kernels in the pan.

2. While you are waiting for the oil to heat up, place the butter in another pan and let it begin melting over medium heat.

3. When one or two of the popcorn kernels pops, pour in the remaining popcorn kernels, covering the bottom of the pan with popcorn. You should not be able to see the bottom of the pan. Turn the burner down to medium high heat and place the lid on the pan, leaving it slightly ajar. The popcorn should begin popping any minute.

4. Once the corn begins popping, begin to shake the pan across the burner continually until the popcorn pops high enough to reach the lid. Leave the popcorn still on the burner and listen closely to hear when the popcorn finishes popping.

5. Pour the popped corn into a large bowl. Then pour the melted butter over the top of the popcorn and add salt to taste. You can simply mix the butter and salt with the corn, by tossing it with a large spoon. Or, mix by pouring the popcorn back and forth between the bowl and pan. Don't forget to try tossing some into the air and catching it in your mouth. Yum.
