Make A Wax Seal Pendant

Sealing wax and embossed seals were used to securely close correspondence in the days before letter and envelope adhesives were invented. Kings and aristocrats had signet rings or seals, often embossed with coats of arms, which when pressed into wet wax, let the letter's recipient know who sent and sealed the letter. Decorative pendants are a charming way to use sealing wax and seals. The crafter can design the pendant with a desired seal and color of wax, giving the jewelry old-world charm.

Instructions

1. Spread a piece of wax paper on a flat surface. Light a match and light the wick of the sealing wax stick.

2. Drip two or three drops of wax onto the wax paper. Blow out the match and the wax sealing stick.

3. Form the polyester cord into a loop and cross the ends, pressing the cord into the wax drops on the wax paper to hold it. Allow the wax to cool.

4. Light the wick of the sealing wax stick again. Drop a dime to nickel-sized spot of wax over the crossed ends of the cord loop, leaving a small loop over the top of the wax "glob," which will eventually become the pendant. The necklace chain will slide through the loop to hang the pendant.

5. Press the seal into the center of the wax circle and hold the seal in place, very still, for thirty seconds. Gently lift the seal upwards from the wax and allow the wax to cool.

6. Peel the pendant from the wax paper carefully. Slip the necklace chain through the cord loop and hang the necklace with the wax seal pendant around your neck.
