Cook White Kidney Beans In A Crockpot

With most households having a busy schedule, crockpot cooking has become more popular. The ease of setting and forgetting until dinner is an appealing alternative to grabbing something from a fast food diner. White kidney beans can be made in the crock pot for a hearty meal on a cold day. Adding some extra ingredients can turn everyday beans into a main course.

Instructions

White Kidney Bean and Ham Dinner

1. Wash the kidney beans and remove any dirt or loose pebbles. Most beans have some dirt and other debris in the bag.

2. Pour the white kidney beans into a pot or large bowl. Add water to cover the beans. Allow the beans to soak overnight.

3. Drain the beans and rinse thoroughly. The soaking and rinsing process will get rid of some of the juices that can cause gas and bloating.

4. Add the white kidney beans to the crockpot, along with the ham and carrots. Add the water to the beans. Make sure the beans are completely covered. Do not add any other seasoning (salt and pepper) until ready to serve. Beans absorb salt while cooking and can become salty tasting rather quickly.

5. Place the lid on the crock pot and turn it on low. Turning on the crock pot should be done early in the morning. This will allow the white kidney beans to simmer throughout the day.
