Remove The Turkey Neck From The Body

The main event of every Thanksgiving meal is traditionally the roast turkey: plump, succulent and greedily consumed by family and guests. Of course, the turkey's preparation is strictly a behind-the-scenes task which makes for early mornings and some grumbling. Part of this task is to remove the turkey's neck. While the thought may not appeal to the more squeamish, the removal of a turkey's neck is a straightforward process.

Instructions

1. Thaw the turkey completely, using your preferred method.

2. Remove the thawed turkey from its packaging.

3. Peek into the neck and body cavities. These will be located on either side of the turkey. The neck, as well as the giblets (commonly the heart and liver), are inside the body. Reach into the cavity with your hand and extract them. Wash the turkey in cold water and prepare as desired.

4. Use the turkey's neck to make a gravy or another dish. If you have no culinary ambitions for the neck, dispose of it.
