Boil Pork Wontons

Delicate dumplings add flavor to wonton soup..

Wontons are Asian dumplings that are often served in soup. They can have any savory ingredients inside, but pork is used in many recipes. After filling and sealing the wonton dumplings, they must be thoroughly cooked to heat the pork and cook the wonton skin. Care must be taken when boiling these dumplings to prevent the movement of the water from ripping them apart. During the boiling process, the pork filling cooks through. Use the same technique to boil pork wontons, whether you make them from scratch or prepare them from a package.

Instructions

1. Fill the pot halfway with water or chicken broth, and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.

2. Reduce the heat to medium so the water simmers.

3. Hold a single dumpling in a slotted spoon and gently lower it into the water. Repeat with three or four more dumplings, but do not crowd the pot.

4. Cook the wontons until they float, and the wonton skin is no longer opaque. This will take three to four minutes.

5. Remove the wontons with the slotted spoon and set aside.

6. Add the cooked wontons back into the soup right before serving.
