Microwave Russet Potatoes

Clean the skin on the potatoes thoroughly before cooking them.

Russet potatoes have creamy white, fluffy flesh that makes them one of the most favored potatoes for baking. Microwave-baked potatoes take less time to prepare than oven-baked versions. The microwave also only uses a fraction of the energy compared to the oven, making it the best choice if you are only cooking one or two potatoes. A baked potato makes a healthy meal or side, as it has no fat and less than 200 calories. It is also rich in fiber and other nutrients.

Instructions

1. Scrub the potato under cool running water with a vegetable brush. Remove all the dirt from the surface of the potato.

2. Pierce the potato four to six times with the tines of a fork. Pierce on all sides so that steam can escape the potato as it cooks.

3. Wrap the potato with a paper towel. Set it inside the microwave.

4. Microwave on high power for four to six minutes, or choose the baked potato setting on your microwave if available. Turn the potato over halfway through the cooking time.

5. Leave the potato in the microwave for five minutes once the cooking time completes. The steam inside the microwave finishes the cooking process during this standing time.

6. Serve the potato immediately. Alternately, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours before serving.
