Preserve Prepared Potato Salad For 2 Days

Potato salad is a side dish that may be made in advance and refrigerated.

Potato salad is a popular side dish, especially in the summer. Recipes vary, but most potato salad contains mayonnaise or a similar salad dressing and sometimes mustard. Potato salad is one dish you can make in advance of a party or picnic, but to make sure it's safe to eat and retains its good flavor, you must store it properly. Storage rules for potato salad are the same, whether the salad contains mayonnaise or a mayonnaise alternative.

Instructions

1. Place the potato salad in a clean, plastic lidded container, using a clean serving spoon. The container should be large enough to hold the potato salad, without it overflowing the container, so the lid can close tightly.

2. Put the lid on the container. A lid prevents debris from falling into the salad, contaminating it, and also prevents the potato salad from losing moisture.

3. Place the container in your refrigerator. The refrigerator's temperature should remain between 34 and 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep the potato salad refrigerated until you're ready to serve it.
