Make Commercial Teriyaki Sauce

Make Commercial Teriyaki Sauce

Teriyaki sauce is a traditional seasoning used to add spice and flavor to a variety of dishes. Teriyaki is actually a cooking technique used in the Japanese culture, where restaurants make food with a sweet soy sauce to add flavor. Non-Japanese cultures have adapted teriyaki sauce to suit their tastes by adding garlic and other seasonings not native to Japanese cuisines. Many people buy commercial teriyaki sauce sold in stores, but you can make your own sauce that tastes just the same with a few simple ingredients.

Instructions

1. Combine 1 cup of cold water, brown sugar, soy sauce, ginger and garlic in a saucepan. Stir the ingredients frequently. Bring the sauce to a boil.

2. Place the cornstarch in a separate bowl. Add ¼ cup of cold water and stir until the cornstarch dissolves.

3. Pour the cornstarch mixture into the sauce.

4. Continue to stir the sauce until it thickens.

5. Add 1 tbsp. water at a time to achieve your desired thickness. Allow the teriyaki sauce to cool to room temperature.

6. Serve the teriyaki sauce with your favorite dish. Store the leftover sauce in a sealed container.
