Home Cure Pork Steak

Pork chops are a popular meal.

Pork is the meat of the pig. Steak is a generic term for a piece of meat. Curing is a process by which meat is treated so that its taste is improved or the meat is preserved. Although cured pork steak can be purchased in grocery stores, it is also possible to cure your own pork. The most common way to cure pork is to brine it by immersing it in salt water.

Instructions

1. Pour around two and a half gallons of water into a large bowl.

2. Pour the salt and sugar into your bowl. Stir using the wooden spoon until the salt and sugar has dissolved.

3. Crush the bay leaves using your fingers and drop them into the bowl. Add the peppercorn, the clove, and the dried thyme to the water in the bowl.

4. Place the pork steak in the bowl. Rest the plate on top of the pork steak to prevent it floating.

5. Place the bowl with the steak in it into a refrigerator and refrigerate for a period of five days. After this period, the pork steak will be cured.
