Seed A Garden Salsa Plant

Garden Salsa is a hybrid variety of hot pepper (Capsicum annuum "Garden Salsa") that gets hotter as the pepper turns from green to red. Pick them when they are green if you are using them in salsa, or wait until they turn red for use in recipes calling for more fire. Garden Salsa requires warm weather to grow 7- to 8-inch long peppers on 24- to 36-inch-tall plants. Start your Garden Salsa plant seeds indoors 10 weeks before the last frost date in your area.

Instructions

1. Add seed-starting planting mix to within 1/4 inch of the rim of a garden flat. Pour water over the soil until it is drenched, and set the flat aside for one or two hours to allow the soil to drain completely.

2. Push the Garden Salsa plant seeds 1/4 inch deep into the soil, 1 inch apart.

3. Place a heat mat in an area that receives indirect sunlight. Set the thermostat to 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

4. Set the flat on top of the heat mat, keep the soil moist, and the Garden Salsa seeds will germinate within two to three weeks.

5. Move the flat into a full-sun location when the seeds sprout.
