Toast Bread Cubes

Use your day-old bread to make toasted bread cubes.

Bread cubes often are used to make stuffing or dressing, but you can add bread cubes to salads, baked pasta dishes and casseroles. Preparing your own bread cubes at home saves you money, and it allows you to use bread that you would otherwise throw out for being too stale. Removing the moisture from the bread cubes gives them a crunchy and crisp texture.

Instructions

1. Heat the oven to 275 degrees F.

2. Slice the bread into 1/2-inch thick slices with a serrated knife if it does not come sliced. Cut each slice into 1/2-inch-wide cubes. Achieve this by slicing 1/2-inch lines horizontally, and then slice the bread in 1/2-inch intervals vertically.

3. Spread the bread cubes onto a baking sheet in a single layer. Stir the cubes while they bake in the oven so that they dry evenly. Bake the bread cubes in the oven for 20 minutes or until they are completely dry.

4. Allow the bread cubes to cool completely. Store the cubes in an airtight container or plastic storage bag. Use the bread cubes within one week.
