Great Snack Ideas For A Football Party

Treat your guests to great game-day snacks.

No football party is complete without its spread of snacks for the guests. Often the difference between a regular game-day party and a spectacular one comes down to the quality of the food, and how well that food goes with the game. Some great snack ideas for your next football party will show your guests that you went the extra mile for them and leave them with fond memories for years to come.

Consider the Colors

Prepare foods that match the colors of the teams you will watch. Some colors, like yellow, green and red, are easily matched with commonplace foods like nachos, guacamole and salsa. Use food coloring to color white food to the colors of the teams. Use the coloring to decorate cookies or a cake. Food coloring also works for homemade macaroni and cheese when it is prepared with white cheese. Treats made with crisped rice and marshmallows also take well to food coloring.

Make Football Shapes

Cut your snacks into pieces that resemble footballs, football helmets and other football-related things. Cookie cutters are available online or at baking supply stores, but you don't have to limit their use to cookies. Use them on any food you can cut that is thinner than the depth of the cutter. Cut a sheet cake into football helmets or chicken cutlets into football shapes. You could garnish the cutlets with a rosemary sprig to give a suggestion of the laces on a football.

Eat Your Opponent

Serve up samples of the opponent's mascot when you or the majority of your guests favor one team. Ducks, alligators, roosters, rattlesnakes and razorbacks are all team mascots that are available at a grocery store or specialty meats vendor. Check the mascot for the opposing team and see if it is an animal that you can legally obtain and cook for snacks. Some guests may turn up their noses at the more exotic meats, but they are not likely to forget them.

Serve What the Players Eat

Research the players to find some of their favorite foods and prepare them for your guests in small portions. If the team eats a pregame meal together, you could imitate that meal for your guests. You could also do a Hall of Fame spread by making snack-sized portions of the favorite foods of Hall of Famers from each team. This guarantees you a variety of different foods and is sure to spark some lively halftime discussions about the players' eating habits.
