Serve Pound Cake

Pound cake, made from butter, flour, sugar and eggs, is a rich and delicious dessert. You can make pound cake even more decadent, however, by serving it in several different ways.

Instructions

1. Serve pound cake plain or dusted simply with powdered sugar. This serving style allows the flavor of the pound cake to shine through.

2. Cover pound cake with a fondant icing. You can make fondant icing simply from a combination of powdered sugar and water or powdered sugar and milk. Spread the fondant icing over the top of the cake. You can also use a straw to punch holes in the pound cake, and then you can pour the icing over the cake allowing the icing to seep down into the cake through the holes.

3. Make a strawberry shortcake using pound cake. Cut a slice of pound cake and cover it with sliced, fresh strawberries. Top it with whipped cream, or topping mix and you will have a delicious variation on the strawberry shortcake. You might even lightly sweeten the strawberries if they aren't' sweet.

4. Top pound cake with fresh or frozen fruit. Use fresh berries such as strawberries, blueberries or raspberries to give a fresh taste to pound cake. You can also defrost frozen berries or other fruit and top a slice of pound cake with the defrosted fruit.

5. Create a pound cake sundae. Put a scoop of ice cream on top of a slice of pound cake. Cover liberally with hot fudge. Add whipped cream, chopped nuts and a cherry if desired.
