Make A Chandelier Out Of Liquor Bottles

Recycle empty bottles into a chandelier.

If you want to add a custom design to your home, unique projects like turning liquor bottles into a chandelier can add charm and interest. Almost any type of liquor bottle can be used to create a chandelier, from beer bottles to wine bottles to vodka bottles. Mix and match a variety of bottle types for a casual look, or stick to a single type for a more formal light fixture.

Instructions

1. Collect bottles for your chandelier. You can use all one type of bottle, such as beer bottles from a single brand, or you can mix and match different types of liquor bottles. Soak bottles in water for about 20 minutes to loosen the label. Slide the label off. Use a bit of rubbing alcohol to remove any sticky residue left on the bottle. Set the bottles upside down and allow to dry completely.

2. Buy a light kit for bottle chandeliers. If your local home supply store does not carry this item, it can be ordered online from several sources. You can purchase kits that use a few bottles or kits that use multiple bottles. Remember that the more bottles you use, the heavier the chandelier will be.

3. Figure out how many bottles you need to create the chandelier. Arrange the bottles on the chandelier tiers provided in the kit. If you are using a single type of bottle, simply fill in the slots for the bottles. However, if you are using different types of alcohol bottles, arrange the bottles until you are happy with the overall look of the piece.

4. Affix the chandelier to the ceiling using the instructions included in the kit. Once the chandelier is mounted, add a light bulb to illuminate the bottles. The wattage of light bulb needed should be indicated in the chandelier kit as well. If it does not specify, a 60-watt bulb should provide enough light.

Tips Warnings

For a frosted glass look, purchase a frosted glass finish spray from the local hardware store and coat each bottle until you achieve the finish you desire.

Collect more bottles than you need to make the chandelier in case any break during the building or hanging process.
