Opening and closing a patio door that has curtains on each side can cause problems, especially on windy days. If you want to keep the curtains on the patio doors, but still need privacy, hang drapes over patio verticals and have the custom look of drapes with the modern look of vertical blinds. Hanging drapes can be easy to control when opening and closing the patio doors if done correctly.
Instructions
Mounting the Vertical Blind
1. Mount the vertical blinds inside the patio doorframe, but as far out to the edge of the frame so that the vertical blinds miss the door handle when closed. Note: You will need a doorframe with at least a 3-inch deep clearance.
2. Place the headrail up at the top of the doorframe. Center the rail and make a mark at the ends of each end. Use the tape measure to measure in 1-inch from the end mark. This will be where you place the brackets on each side.
3. Place the left bracket on the inside inch mark. Use a screwdriver to screw the two screws into the ceiling of the doorframe. Do the same thing on the right side.
4. Place the headrail into the brackets. It will be flush with the edge of the doorframe on the inside.
Mounting the Drapes
5. Place the curtain rod on the wall up 2 inches from the edge of the doorframe. Make a mark on each end. The rod should be a 1/2 inch longer than the frame on each side.
6. Place the left bracket up on the wall at the mark. Use the screwdriver to screw the bracket to the wall. Do the same for the right side.
7. Place the curtain rod in the brackets. Hang the curtains and open the curtains so that they rest at the sides.
8. Use the curtain tiebacks to hold the curtains out of the way of the door. Screw the tieback hooks into the wall where you want to hold the curtains back.
9. Wrap the tiebacks around the curtain, pull the curtain back and hook the tiebacks on the hooks.
