determine-grain-capacity-of-water-softener

My water softener is 10 by 36 tall. I used a calculator online to determine that it needs about 1 cubic foot of resin. How do I know how many kilograins the capacity of my water softener is? It is not labeled anywhere on the softener and I need this number to properly setup the timer.

The maximum possible capacity is determined by the volume of resin in the softener. A 1 cubic foot softener that is regenerated with a maximum salt dose of 15 lbs per cubic foot of resin will have a capacity of approximately 30,000 grains. However using maximum salt dose is relatively salt inefficient--it yields about 2,000 grains of capacity per lb of salt. The same cubic foot of resin that is regenerated with 6 lbs of salt will have a capacity of about 19,000 grains.
Here is a link that contains a table that shows the relationship between salt dose a capacity. (Use the table on page 4 for c100 resin)http://www.caitechnologies.com/image...pecs/SST60.pdf

What valve do you have? To set it up, you need to know the hardness of the water and the iron (if any).

The valve is a Autotrol 155. The hardness is 21 grains per gallon. When I did a test, I don't recall their being any iron.
