Restring A Plantation Blind Tilt Cord

Plantation blinds are easy to repair.

Plantation blinds offer versatility in design and color, whether you are trying to moderate a room's exposure to the sun or keep warmth in during winter. The blinds' larger slats make them easy to clean and repair. Before purchasing the replacement string, make sure you know the correct size for your particular brand.

Instructions

1. Remove the blind from the mounting brackets. Lay them on a flat surface and remove the bottom rail buttons. Cut the knot from each lift cord.

2. Remove all slats by sliding each one out to the side away from the string ladder. Pull away the broken cord from the lock and head rail.

3. Feed the replacement cord through the lock and head rail. Replace the slats onto the string ladders. Thread the middle lift cord through the slat holes.

4. Replace the bottom rail onto the ladder at the required length. Leave about 2 inches of string below the rail. Cut off the excess. Twist the ladder ends and insert them into the bottom rail holes.

5. Thread the lift cord through the bottom rail buttons and secure it with a knot. Insert the buttons into the rail. Adjust the cord stops if the blind length was shortened.

Tips Warnings

Shorten the blinds by reducing the number of slats.

If the cord unravels while threading it through the slats, burn the end to melt it together or thread it through with a needle.
